Open swim...done!
Boy was that an experience!  It started at 9 and it’s at Hagg Lake in Gaston, Oregon, so it as a good hour drive.  But the area where we swam was beautiful. We were treading water in the lake, surrounded by beautiful trees and blue sky (and thankfully, no rain).  I was going to get pictures before I left, but did I remember? Damnit. There were several experienced open water swimmers and...

I hope you can do the tri today. I’m so excited to see how you do!  And don’t forgot to take off your goggles before you put on our helmet.  :)

Thanks, TriDad!  No, no. Jeremy’s not an idiot. It’s probably safe to say that most of the people on that e-mail are experienced triathletes and they know the lingo.  Why should he dumb it down for a few us that aren’t? This is what worries me—pissing someone off because I don’t know what I’m doing, getting in someone’s way, or all of them waiting on...

Tri Questions
The Portland Triathlon Club is holding the open swim on Sunday and I couldn’t find anthing on the website on where to register. Plus there was conflicting times between it’s Facebook page and the website—one said 9 and another said Noon. We’re not off to a great start.  I e-mailed Jeremy and he sent me the e-mail that he forwarded to the registrants. One paragraph said...

Today at the pool...
I split a lane with an Ironman!  Dude was fast!  And hawt! I had the lane to myself for a whole 5 minutes! Woot! Another dude hopped in and I split with him. We were swimming by each other and his arm came out and whacked mine.  I finished my 300/200/100 set and was resting and he came stopped and apologized.  I said, to be nice, “I’m not sure whose fault it was.  I could have...

Sounds wonderful! We’ll stuff ourselves silly! I can almost guarantee this will be followed by a phase of not being hungry at all.  I’m tracking on Livestrong.com for the next 10 days.  I gave Jeremy my login and password so he can look at what I’m eating and how much and then we’re going to talk about it. Considering the amount of time I spend working out and how...

Another day of not being able to fill full and satisfied.  I’m chugging water to see if that helps.  What I really want to do is find a dark corner and eat all the cookies.

And for some reason that is beyond me, I can now comment using my work computer.  It’s been about 3 months, at least, since I was able to do that, but now it suddenly works again (although I did notice the reblog button is different so maybe Tumblr did something on their end).  I’ve been commenting using my phone and what a pain that is! So now, expect all kinds of comments from me....

Hit the pool this morning at 6:30.  Jeremy sent me a workout last week that goes like this: Warm up 5 x 50 swim on :15 rest   easy effort 5 x 50 drill (3 finger tip / 2 catch up) on :30 rest.  Drill 25 / Swim 25 Main Set 300-200-100 on :30 rest.  Medium to hard efforts.  Try to build a little in effort as each work set distance drops. 500 easy effort.  Alternate odd lengths (sighting) and even...

I’ve been hungry all day.  ALL. DAY.  Ate a good breakfast, morning snack, filling lunch (5 oz chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice and 1 cup broccoli) and I just couldn’t get full.  And it’s not any different from what I usually eat. I was ignoring the hunger pangs until it was time to eat my pear, but then I got such a bad one it hurt.  Habanero BBQ almonds for the win.  I...

Nope.  It’s just an open water practice swim.  Get used to the wet suit, swimming with a group of people around you, that kind of thing.  The real deal is Saturday, June 8th.

I reserved one.  Go pick it up on Thursday.  It’s a workout to just get into one of those.  And talk about warm. They should call them sausage casings, because that’s what I looked like in it.  A sausage.

Getting my mojo back...
one run at a time.  Actually joined the running group today.  Session 1 (which is finishing in a week, I think) went down to the waterfront and Session 2 (which just started) went up to Leif Erickson.  I’m in both so I could do either.  I decided to do the run up to Leif Erickson.  Running from the FitRight start, once you cut  over to Thurman, is all up hill.  All up hill on the way there,...

I’m not usually the squeal type of girl, but it’s the unknown and not being able to see what’s touching me that will make me jumpy.  Of course, maybe just trying not to drown will make me totally oblivous of all the other stuff.

Sighting
Met Jeremy in the pool today and he thought me to sight.  Like anything athletic I do, I didn’t get it right away, but started to get the hang of it.  Practice, practice, practice. He said my stroke looked “effortless” so yay for that.  And we talked about the tri and he found out I signed up for the beginner triathlon, which is only a 1/4 mile swim as opposed to the 1/2 mile in...

Bike/Run/Transitions/Near Misses
Today I did a brick. And when I say brick I mean that in the loosely defined terms as possible. I meant to start the ride this morning, but I didn’t sleep well at all last night.  Or the night before.  I got up at 7 and tried to function, but I ended up falling back asleep until 11:30, but it was sleep I needed because I felt rested when I woke up.  I took a shower and then went to REI and...

Tired swim today.  I was tired last night, but couldn’t go to sleep.  My tummy hurt, and I couldn’t tell if it was hungry or it was upset.  My bosses took me out for a drink yesterday and I had an appetizer of 3 meatballs on some mashed potatoes (it was delicious!) and a glass of white whine.  I got home and ate a slice of bread with peanut butter—probably should have eaten...

So I kind torqued my inner thigh muscle during my run last night. That’s what you get for going out for 6 miles, on a hilly course, after not having done a challenging course or that distance for a while.  It felt tight when I was at the end of the run, and now it’s just sore. I thought it would affect my swimming, but I really don’t feel it once I’m up and moving, so it...

Things I discovered about the bike...
It gives me way more bruises and scrapes on my legs than I thought possible. Mostly because I’m not so hot at stopping. It can hurt your lady parts (again, not good at stopping)* I can ride across the street (several in fact) without getting hit Portland has an awesome trail system—so lucky to live here! Riding into a headwind sucks (it’s quite windy here today) Riding with...

I’m glad to hear this.  One of my coworkers ran Portland too and the next weekend she went out and ran 8 miles and is still running like crazy and it’s made me wonder what the hell my problem is.  It’s been going on for a long time, but I just haven’t really talked about it.

I've lost my running mojo...
You may have noticed.  I haven’t exactly been posting about all my runs, have I?  I did run on Monday for 3.51 miles. And I have run some on the weekends, but not with the group and not as many miles as I need to.  It started with missing a 12 mile run. Then I missed a 15 mile run. And then it going down hill from there.  It wasn’t that I was hating running when I ran. I was just so...

Because my car is a ‘99.  It’s 14 years old.  I also hate car payments—which is why I’m driving around a car that’s 14 years old.  But it’s time for another one, which is why I’ll be saving money for a down payment so the monthly payment is astronomical. I’ll also buy used—which is what I did with this car.  It’s really in petty good...

Bike/Swim
I think I broke my vajayjay, as Oprah would say.  I suck at the bike. I was up a little before 7, had breakfast, packed my stuff and went to Willamette Park.  My plan was to ride my bike towards downtown to the Southwest waterfront.  I forgot how it curves and has dips and hills. I’m not that good on the bike, and doing downhill on a blind curve was too scary.  And there were people out,...
