Looking at the list of routes posted on the Get Fit Live Fit website, this looks like it might be our route tomorrow. Sooooo many turns. Sooooo many opportunities to get lost. If I never post again, you’ll know its because I’m lost in the wilds of Vancouver, WA.

5.5 miles down last night, but no time to post about it last night. It was a beautiful evening! Tonight I’m going to walk so I can stretch and foam roll for tomorrow’s 18 miles.
So, yep, that’s about it.

This happened this morning. Don’t judge. I’m working for an international intern/summer clerk from Canada (where he’s actually a full-fledged attorney) and he wanted to check out VooDoo Donuts. I don’t think you get the real VooDoo experience until about 2 am on a Saturday night, but a bunch of us went this morning. This is a very tame “raspberry romeo.” I...
Track Workout.
Marathon Training, T-minus 5-1/2 weeks and counting.
So JEREMY (yes, he’s back in all caps) cut back the workout a little.
It was supposed to be:
400 / 800 / 1200 / 1600 / 1200 / 800 / 400 (:40) each set at 95% or above race pace
But he cut it down to: 400 / 1200 / 1600 / 1200 / 400 (But still the 95% effort level.)
You know, when I run it takes a while for me to get my...

Track workout tonight.
400 / 800 / 1200 / 1600 / 1200 / 800 / 400 (:40) each set at 95% or above race pace
So this is 4 miles total (4.5 if you include the easy 800 we do as part of the warm up). JEREMY is a card.
Tuesday Stuff
Went to the gym at lunch and did upper body stuff, stretched, and foam rolled. Man, my hip flexors are sore from the massage yesterday. Like sore when I touch and push on them a little. But also feels like a good sore. Sore, but not tight.
Had a hair appoinment tonight. Feels so refreshed and good after I get my hair done.
I notice a lot of men smiling at me lately. What the hell is up...
And this is breaking news why? Its not like its a big surprise. It would be more newsworthy if they nominated, say, Al Gore. Yep, now that would be news!
I just got a look at tomorrow’s track workout. Holy shit.

I SAID to disregard! Wow, try to be nice and you get yelled at :(

Can you virtually slap someone?
I just sighed and shook my head. It’s someone else who wants to slap you. :)

Tightness is always good….wait, that’s for something else. Disregard
Sigh. (Shakes head.) :)

Did you work out today? I am always RAVENOUS on rest days :/
Nope. I got my hip flexors massaged instead and she doesn’t want me to do anything today, although I will probably go for an easy walk after work so I can stretch and foam roll.
And speaking of my hip flexors, my left...
I haven’t one of these days in a while. The kind of day where your stomach has apparently blossomed into a bottomless pit and you are always hungry. :/
Let us just dub this the lazy ass weekend. Friday I hung out with friends on a deck, ate some BBQ, drank some wine. When I agreed to that I knew I probably wasn’t going to make the 10 mile Terwilliger run Saturday morning. No big. Do it in the afternoon or Sunday. Yep, Sunday is here and I’m not doing the run. My hip flexors are on fire. F.I.R.E. I didn’t stretch like I...
Flashback 2 year to September 2010 at the Race for the Cure with my friend, Karen. This is right before I ran my first 5k “race.” Oh sure, it was chip timed, but I ran the whole thing. I think it took me like 40-something minutes. Oh, and look at that nice gut I’ve got on me. :)

So. Was he any good in the sack?
Now this is funny! Between work and running, when would I have time to meet any available men and schedule them into my training schedule?
I’m becoming the George Constanza of running. Need to know where the bathrooms are on your run? I’m your girl. I’m getting really good at plotting out my runs so I have bathroom stops.
I ran along the waterfront to Willamette Park and back. I had to make a couple of pottie stops—hello coffee—but it was actually a pretty good run. Legs felt good and I felt like I...
Oh you guys crack me up! :) Its just not something I’m willing to admit to or own up to yet.

You know when you shouldn’t do something, but you do it anyway because you can’t help yourself? Its like all your good judgment flies out the window even though you know you’ll be kicking yourself about it later? Yep…

I am ass-dragging tired today. With track workout last night and then waking up at 4:40 this morning and not really getting back into deep sleep again, I’m pooped. But I’m determined to churn out my 8 miles, with the help of this little cup. Already feeling perkier!
I can’t believe I’m back at work already. How the hell did that happen?

So I did this at lunch today. I divided up the marathon course into 5 sections. Instead of saying I’m only on mile 16, I’ll be like “I just finished section 2, only 3 more sections to go.” I think it will help mentally.
Killed the track workout! Okay, I probably killed it because it was easier.
12 x 400s
4 x 400s with :45 rest between each
4 x 400s with :30 rest between each
4 x 400s with :15 rest between each
He did throw in a mile test before, and that was 11:26. My first one at the beginning of the training session was just a few seconds under 12 minutes. I was also very consistent on the 400s. Like...
Track Workout tonight:
12 x 400 at 90% 4 on :45 rest 4 on :30 rest 4 on :15 rest
I can totally run around the track once and then rest. Run, then rest. Run-rest.
Seems deceptively easy….

45 minute run tonight with 10 hill repeats. Except after 5 hill repeats I ran over to the stairs by River Place Athletic Club and did 6 repeats of the stairs. When I first did those in June (and I haven’t been back since) afterwards my legs felt like they were on fire! Tonight? Not at all. Legs are definitely stronger.
I also had to pee during this run. This whole I’ve got...
Apparently Runlojorun recommends these for those longer runs.

You know you’ve sunk to a new low when you google “how to stop poop from happening on long runs.” At work. I looked ahead at the schedule and we are doing 20 and 22 mile runs in Forest Park. It really is like a forest and not so much like a park, with no bathrooms around, except for trees and that’s if you’re on a part where there isn’t a hill above or below...

This Sunday’s episode of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition is about a guy in Portland. Fun to see some of it filmed on the waterfront where I do so many of my runs!

Found out last night that long runs do not guarantee a good night of sleep. Finally fell asleep around 3:30 this morning. I tell you there’s some interesting infomercials on at that hour.
I was wrong...
Jeremy said it was cool and cloudy and spitting rain because he had washed his car for the first time since January. So Jeremy gets super hero status because of the cool weather. Now, have to remember to wash my car on Friday….

Marthon Training, Week Whatever (Is it over yet?), First 18 mile run
I swear, if Tumblr eats this post like it did a few minutes ago…. Its going to be much, much shorter, which you guys will appreciate, I’m sure.
I slept well last night because it was so much cooler—yay! And it was cool and cloudy the whole run. Truly, it was lovely! Our route was down to the waterfront...
I can’t begin to express how jacked up my hips are. So tight. Can someone met me at my house and help me out of my car? Oh. And 18 miles done.

Yesterday I bought some Ultima Replinisher (orange flavored). Its what the Portland Marathon is serving on the course, so if I like it, can run with it in my tummy, then I don’t have to carry bottles of it with me on race day (although I’ll probably have a small bottle as a back up, just in case). I always heard about training with the drinks they serve on the course, but they are...

Today in Happy Friday land:
My bedroom, the last place in my condo to heat up, has reached the warm and stuffy stage, which made it hard to sleep last night.
I woke up at around 4:30, moved to the couch, and zonked out there with the noisy AC unit running.
I then had a dream nightmare that my work neighbor moved in with me. There were plastic bags of stuff laying everywhere (I watched...
The offending tree, with the suspected area that broke off circled. Yep, it was big. It looks level to the track because its an aerial view, but its actually just above the track because of the hillside.

Track Workout, Fallen Tree, News Coverage, and the...
So first things first, a massive branch of a massive tree fell on the track tonight. And fell on people. Yeah, fell on people. The diameter of the bottom of the branch that broke off the tree was probably 2 feet and there multiple branches. It covered almost the whole width of the track and a good 20 feet length wise. We were in the middle of the workout, heard this giant cracking sound and...

Here’s a tip. Run before it gets hot :P
Oh, hush. You’re just high from your early morning run. :) Dude, track workouts are at 6 pm. I am not the scheduler of them. :)
I haven’t done any early morning runs this summer because the mileage has gotten too long for me to get them done...
I was all set to go into beast mode ala runlojorun and then I get an e-mail from Jeremy on tips to handle the heat and saying he’s scaling back the workout:
“4. modify workout - this is my job. Rest assured that the workout will be adjusted to fit the weather. We are simply not used to this heat so no point trying to crush one this evening. Will drop volume and intensity, get big...
Mirror-Free Bride
This was an interesting read about a woman who avoided looking into the mirror and her self-esteem issues. I don’t think I could ever do this because I’ve tried to put in my contacts without looking in the mirror. I didn’t go well.
I’ve thought about taking my scale and putting it in the trunk of my car, but haven’t done it yet. So today I got up, peed and weighed. Up 3 lbs from yesterday. 3 lbs. I know there’s no way that’s even a possibility, and I had a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon on it at lunch yesterday (should have taken that bacon off!) and considering the time of the month, yep,...
Before I left for my reunion and a visit with my parents I felt like I was in the zone with my training and food. Not all the runs were good. Not all of them were the mileage they needed to be, but they were close. And I was in the mindset where I was treating food more like fuel for my body. Tasty feul, but fuel nonetheless. And I was losing weight. But ever since I made that trip, I’ve...
Okay, that totally sucked. SUCKED. I decided to do 3 miles outside first, and then do the rest on the treadmill. So hot outside, no water, and was sweating like crazy. Came back in, got water and a towel and then hopped onto treadmill. I started to run and was just wiped out. I started to do run/walk intervals, but even those were hard. 2 miles later I stopped. I had a kashi bar around 4,...
Remember how in the spring I used to curse our cool, cloudy rainy weather? How it was still in the 60s, until the week of July 4th and I was grumpy about it? How I’d wish for summer? Yeah, well, its 88 degrees right now. Crap! How in the hell am I supposed to run 8 miles in that?! I’m from the Pacific Northwest. We melt in that kind of heat. A coworker told me I should just run 3...

9.45 miles done. Didn’t quite make it to 11, but that’s okay because I ran up Terwilliger. First I ran out and back on 4th avenue to add extra mileage, then I ran up Terwilliger Blvd. I also forgot I was out of sports beans this morning so my energy was fading fast on the way back down Terwillger. A 180 calorie kashi bar is not properf fuel for almost 10 miles. Just glad...
So this is how today went down...
I woke up around 2 with nausea and then threw up. Dozed from until 4, then threw up again. Still felt queasy this morning. Yep, no long run today. Ack!! I bought some baked chicken at the store last night and I seriously think it was that. Feeling much better after sleep and ready to run, but this leaves me in a bit of a quandary on how much to do tomorrow. The schedule was 14 today, rest...
